I’ve been appointed as one of 100 Ambassadors to lead the RTPI 2014 Centenary project the Future Planners Initiative.
This initiative is one of the RTPIs flagship projects for its centenary year. Its purpose is to engage with students at schools throughout the UK and Ireland in order to introduce them to the exciting, challenging and ever changing world of Planning.
The project will involve presentations to and discussions with groups of students in Secondary Schools, Academies and Sixth Form Colleges throughout the South West region. My particular focus will be on schools within my home city of Bristol. This will give me the chance to tell them about the wide ranging opportunities that a career in Planning generates. It will allow me to emphasise the importance of Planning our society in order to balance the challenges of our current and future needs, the importance of creating the best places that we can to live and work in and enjoy and to protect our heritage whilst creating exciting new buildings, places and spaces. Hopefully as part of this initiative I will be helping to inspire and develop the next generation of planners.
